SAPE - Société des Ambianceurs et des Personnes Élégantes

A portrait story of the members of the SAPE from Pointe-Noire, Republic of the Congo
by Francesco Giusti - 1st Jury Prize Documentary - Viewbook PhotoStory 2009.

In Congo “elegance” is identified with its own cultural history. The SAPE (Society for the Advancement of People of Elegance) began when Congo was a French colony. Many Congolese people were fascinated with French elegance and decided to imitate the French look. In the 70s and the 80s, many Congolese immigrants went to France and coming back to Brazzaville brought the cult of elegance.

The SAPE is an art and the real gentleman have to know the concept of gentleness and good manners related to the inherent moral code of the individual. A true member of the SAPE is first and foremost a gentleman and a pacifist. Every weekend, the members of the SAPE with their eccentric and amusing nicknames, gather in bars and fashionable dance halls or parade in the streets to the amusement of the children and the applause of passers-by.

The designer can turn the shirt into furniture, equipment, electronics, a bicycle-anything they want, however they want. They will transform and redefine the definition of the T-shirt as we’ve understood it for so many decades.
All the tees will be exhibited and then auctioned off and all proceeds will be donated to DAA-Designers Against Aids.

Cartier ID One concept watch - not for sale

The basic concept behind the Cartier ID One is to create a watch which does not require regulation or adjustment either during assembly or indeed at any time during the life of the watch.

Perpetuelle blog reports the numerous innovations in this watch:

Zerodur hairspring - a proprietary ceramic/glass material that is completely unaffected by magnetic fields and is also highly dimensionally and elastically stable across a wide range of temperatures.

Carbon Crystal - an extremely hard, diamond-like material which effectively enables the escapement to be oil free.

Shock resistant escapement cage - This allows the escapement cage to shift both laterally and vertically to absorb force, thus protecting the entire escapement from shock.

Niobium-Titanium case - a highly wear resistant and hypoallergenic alloy that has its own unique shock absorption properties that give it an advantage over a material such as steel.

Currently ID One is only a concept watch and with no plans to offer it for sale commercially.

Vue dc...

Three longtime friends and their continuous passion for the 30' and 40's frames brought them to search for the true craftsmen who acquired the knowledge through several generations of artisans.

The selection of acetate colors, the choice of cutting the materials in a specific thickness to emphasize the volume of the frame were the important elements contributing to the creation of the Vue dc collection.
